Pravendra Singh Karki (30 June 19 – 9 June 2014), popularly known as Pappu Karki , was a famous Kumaoni folk singer from Uttarakhand,Pappu Karki was born on 30 June 1979 in Selavan village of Pithoragarh district to Kishan Singh Karki and Kamala Karki. He did his elementary education in primary school, Hipa , and further education in junior high school Premnagar and government high school Bhattigaon . Due to poor financial condition of the family, after leaving high school, he joined private job in Delhi . From 2003 to 2007 , he worked as a peon in Delhi, first in a petrol pump, then in a printing press, and finally in a bank, after which he moved to Rudrapur , where he worked for two years at Dabur Company
On the morning of 6 June 2014 , Karki was returning to Haldwani after performing with four of his colleagues at the Yuva Mahotsav held in Gouniyars of Nainital district . At about five o’clock, after reaching near the Hadhakhan temple, his car went uncontrolled and rolled towards another road after going into a deep ditch. The car was completely damaged in the accident, and he and his two companions died on the spot.After this he was cremated at Ramganga Ghat in Thal on 10 June .In their mourning, the markets of Pankhu and Thal remained closed on 10 June
